Our Story

Built on a promise kept.

Moore’s Rescue Ranch started as a dream years in the making. Co-founders Kim Dalluge and Donna Purcell talked for years about starting a rescue together, and when they retired in 2021, they finally made it happen.

What began as a shared passion for animal welfare has grown into a full team of dedicated volunteers and board members, all united by one simple belief: every animal — no matter their age, breed, or ability — deserves a second chance at life.

What we do

More than a shelter.

We take in homeless, surrendered, and at-risk cats and dogs from across the Champaign area, including animals with disabilities that can make them harder to place. Every animal that comes through our doors gets a full vet exam, vaccinations, grooming, and any specialized care they need before we start looking for their forever home.

Our adoption and foster process is thorough — reference checks and a home visit are part of it — but never slow. We work one-on-one with every family to make sure it’s the right match, and we stick around with support, supplies, and advice long after the paperwork’s signed.

Real stories, real second chances

Franklin

Poppy

Franklin was found by animal control in the middle of a Champaign winter, cold and in rough shape. Our team got him groomed, examined, and caught up on his shots, then found him a family ready to give him the life he deserved. A year later, he’s snuggled up at home, going on walks and adventures — and his family says their house is fuller and happier with him in it.

Poppy is a vision- and hearing-impaired Australian Shepherd who came to us, along with her brother, in need of foster families comfortable with special-needs pets. We matched her with a family who fell in love and made it permanent, while her brother found his own home with experienced Aussie owners. These days, Poppy’s a regular at our adoption events, showing everyone just how full a life a special-needs pet can have.

Visit our cat lounge & cafe, The Kitty Crib, to find a welcoming space full of friendly, playful cats. Online reservations are simple & affordable ($5 for students, $7 for non-students), and our staff is always happy to introduce you to your future best friend.
